Review

It’s a novel that aims high, with an embedded narrative, plenty of authors as characters, plenty of base human instincts, big metaphor, statements about feminism and transgender identity. But it’s still a lot of fun, really engaging, and for a 43 year old text, doesn’t particularly screw up in its depictions of sensitive matters.

I really enjoyed this read. If I were to pick out one thing, it’s that the pacing was tough, like the story slowed to a crawl at some point and stayed that way until rapidly gaining steam and coming to a pretty stunning conclusion.

Extra points, too, for the main character’s hatred of cars.
