Review

This is a really cool book. It’s the first metafictional novel that I’ve read - it tells the same story multiple times in different styles and levels of credibility. One of the versions is almost entirely without quoted dialogue.

Like most of my other reads, I did no background research before committing to it, and was surprised to find a chapter that was set partially in my neighborhood of Brooklyn. What are the odds? Anyway, I won’t write much more about the plot because a lot of the enjoyment of reading this was the surprises and reframings.

I really liked it. It’s a little challenging and is very self-aware in its unconventionality. But it’s not very long, either, so if you don’t buy the schtick, you won’t have wasted much time.
