I read this book quickly, in anticipation of a book club meeting. It was well-suited to a quick read: short chapters, fast-paced, a book fit for pleasure reading on a trip.
It has some complexity on the surface - time travel, multiple plots, about a dozen relevant characters, but under the surface it's simple, almost to a fault. Especially in the closing chapters, the plotlines are tied together in a way that feels a bit too neat, and in a way that didn't really add much meaning, only explanation. The author's first novel is a TV show now and I strongly suspect this one will be optioned as well.
I liked some of the themes that were explored early on, like the overlapping ideas of space and earthly colonialism, the influence of pandemics throughout history, but none of them really got enough time to be explored in depth.
Overall: it was a fun, fast read, but it didn't leave me with very much to think about.
