Review

I picked up Lightning Rods at the local McNally Jackson: the last few books I powered through were kind of disappointing and I wanted a bit of serendipity, the kind that comes from some bookstore employee's recommendation. It mostly fit the purpose: a fun, quick read that was totally different than anything I've consumed recently.

The way this novel is laid out reminded me a lot of The Founder, about Ray Kroc and McDonalds. The repeated gag of applying sales wisdom to unbelievable circumstances was pretty funny. It's a book with one central idea that just sees it through: what would happen if we tried to solve workplace sexual harassment? Character development is not a big concern here. It's like if a Ted Chiang book was funny.

I had fun with it and I think it's a great book for getting your reading back on track and getting some funny and observant cultural-critic humor while you're at it.
